The LSU Tigers held star running back Leonard Fournette out of the team’s Week 2 match up against Jacksonville State. Fournette re-injured his ankle in Week 1 and head coach Les Miles held him out for precautionary reasons.
But when the Tigers take the field in Week 3 against SEC foe Missisissippi State, Fournette is expected to return to the lineup.
“We expect Leonard to be back and ready to go in this game,” said Miles at his weekly press conference, via SEC Country. “We’re fortunate we have the type of backs we can turn to without Leonard Fournette in the lineup, but we’ll be happy to have him back. I think Leonard will practice, if not every day, certainly four of those days or three of those days.”
Fournette’s backup, Derrius Guice, rushed for 155 yards and a touchdown against Jacksonville State.
While that was a strong performance, there is no doubt LSU would prefer to have their workhorse running back in the backfield when they open up conference play.
LSU and Mississippi State are set to kick off at 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
