Following a win over Charleston Southern in Week 2, the Florida State football program announced star defender Derwin James would be forced to miss some time after undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus.
Since the Seminoles are featured on Showtime’s “A Season With…” Hard Knocks-style reality show this year, they have released a behind-the-scenes look at the moment James learned of the severity of his injury. The footage will air on this week’s episode.
In the video, you see James undergo an MRI, before learning the disappointing news from head coach Jimbo Fisher.
Fisher was incredibly emotional as James was informed of his diagnosis, while James appears ready to take this as motivation to come back stronger than ever when he is able to return to the field.

James is expected to miss the next two to six weeks as he recovers from the injury.
The news comes at the worst possible time for Florida State, as the team prepares for a trip to Louisville where they will face Heisman contender Lamar Jackson and the No. 10 Cougars in a crucial ACC match up.
The game is set to kick off at noon ET, with live coverage on ABC.
