Antonio Callaway’s North Texas status still up in the air

In last Saturday’s win over the Kentucky Wildcats, Florida wide receiver Antonio Callaway suffered a quadriceps injury, which left head coach Jim McElwain worried about the player’s future.

Now it looks like he might be out for this weekend against North Texas.

Callaway didn’t practice on Monday and was barely full-speed on Tuesday, so this has the team “a little nervous” about him being about to play Saturday. McElwain opened up about Callaway ahead of Wednesday’s practice and he didn’t seem to lean towards or away from him playing against the Mean Green.

I’ll be looking, excited to see kind of how he looks today, especially as it goes through all the way through practice [today], because you could see he could run a little bit better as he worked through it,” McElwain explained.

Callaway is the Gators’ leading receiver on the year as he has 201 yards and two touchdowns on 13 catches. He would certainly be missed for quarterback Luke Del Rio on Saturday.
