Urban Meyer consults Tom Herman for Oklahoma game

Urban Meyer leads his No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes into Norman this weekend for one of the marquee match ups of Week 3 against the No. 14 Oklahoma Sooners.

It won’t be an easy game for the Buckeyes in hostile territory, but the Ohio State head coach is calling on the advice of a friend and former assistant familiar with taking down the Sooners.

According to reports, Meyer consulted with Houston head coach Tom Herman, who led the Cougars to a big win over Oklahoma in the season-opener. Herman previously served as offensive coordinator under Meyer during Ohio State’s 2014 national championship run.

“We did talk to Tom, just to get their thoughts on personnel,” Meyer told Chris Vannini of Coaching Search.

“It was more about personnel, a couple new players on the back end of their defense. Schematically, not as much, because we get the same video they have.”

You have to use any advantage you get. And it’s only fair for Meyer to consult with Herman, considering Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops reached out to Michigan State’s Mark Dantonio for some intel.

Whether the advice they received pays off remains to be seen, but we should be in for a thrilling game on Saturday.

Ohio State and Oklahoma are set to kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET on FOX.
