When the Louisville football team takes the field at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium against the No. 2 Florida State Seminoles on Saturday afternoon, they will be honoring the memory of one of the greatest and most influential athletes of all-time, local hero Muhammad Ali.
Ali, whose impact in the world expanded far outside of the boxing ring, passed away this past June at the age of 74.
On Saturday, the Cardinals will honor Ali with a special helmet decal on the back of their new chrome lids. The decal will simply read “Ali” and is in the shape of a butterfly to commemorate his legendary quote, “Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.”
Here is a look at Louisville’s helmets for this week’s game.
