Police drove Mateen Cleaves home after reported assault

It was reported earlier this week that former Michigan State basketball star Mateen Cleaves had been involved in a sexual assault at a hotel in Flint, Michigan. However, he was never arrested in the case and it seems that officers were star struck when they responded.

Gary Ridley of Mlive.com reported that police actually took Cleaves home after they responded to the incident. Wayne County prosecutor Lisa Lindsey stated that police did not seem to think the crime would rise to a certain level, while also trying to keep Cleaves’s attorneys from questioning the woman on her history of mental health.

However, this didn’t work out too well as Genesee District Judge M. Cathy Dowd claimed the alleged victim’s credibility in the case. Whatever it turns out to be, it doesn’t seem like Mateen Cleaves has much to worry about.

Cleaves played for the Spartans from 1996-2000. He recorded 12.5 points, 6.6 assists and 2.1 rebounds per game in his four seasons with the team.
