Louisville soccer knocks off No. 1 Notre Dame

There seems to be some momentum going in the Louisville athletic department thanks to the Louisville soccer team on Friday night. The Cardinals stepped onto the pitch and were upend the No. 1-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish thanks to a goal from junior Mohamed Thiaw, the only goal of the game.

Thiaw’s remarkable goal came in the 25th minute after a beautiful long ball from junior Joey Kunkel.

Watch the magic happen below:

“It feels good and I think we deserved it as well. I thought we were a little bit nervous and had some jitters, but after about the 15-minute mark, we started playing,” said Louisville coach Ken Lolla, via the school’s website.

“Once we started, I thought we ended the first half pretty well and what a goal by Mo. In the second half, I thought we simply managed it and didn’t give anything away. We defended very well but it seems like Stef needs to come up with one (big save) each game and he was huge on that late shot. They’re a very good team and that’s a huge win.”

The Louisville football program has to hope some of that magic rubs off on them.

On Saturday afternoon, the Cardinals face No. 2 Florida State on the gridiron in the first top ten match up of the college football season. We’ll have to see if the Louisville momentum can carry over.
