The Ohio State Buckeyes embarrassed the Oklahoma Sooners Saturday night with a 45-24 win in Norman. This comes after Sooners’ backup quarterback Austin Kendall called out Ohio State’s defense for being “basic.”
The Buckeyes proved they were the exact opposite of that when they intercepted two of Baker Mayfield’s passes and returned one for a touchdown. After the win, defensive end Jalyn Holmes took a shot at the Sooners by flaunting a sign that read “basic defense,” which linebacker Raekwon McMillan couldn’t help but be a part of.
Mayfield finished the game 17-of-32 for 226 yards, two touchdowns, and the two interceptions. Kendall said the starting quarterback would “light up” Ohio State’s defense and that certainly did not happen.
I can only imagine what Mayfield had to say to his backup after the game. I am sure Kendall won’t be opening his mouth over the next few weeks.
The Sooners have a week off before opening Big 12 play in Fort Worth against the TCU Horned Frogs on Oct. 1.
