The Georgia Bulldogs had to stage a last-minute comeback against the Missouri Tigers to move to 3-0 on the season Saturday night. They did so as freshman quarterback Jacob Eason solidified his spot as the starter going forward.
Eason hooked up with Isaiah McKenzie from 20 yards out to win the game 28-27 with just over a minute left in the game. Because of his efforts in the game, he was named CBS National Freshman of the Week.
Eason was 29-55 with 308 yards and three touchdowns against just one interception in Saturday’s win over the Tigers. He set career highs for completions, attempts, yards and touchdowns in the big game.
“When the kid’s slinging it, I don’t think he has any worries at all,” senior center Brandon Kublanow said after the game, via DawgNation.com. “Jacob was calm. First SEC game, I know I was nervous as hell. But he seemed real calm in the huddle. He managed the game well. Did a lot of things great. Very proud of him.”
Eason has been in a battle with Greyson Lambert for the starting job for most of the season. The true freshman has now locked up the starting job and it is hard to believe he won’t be their guy for the rest of the season.
The Georgia Bulldogs have a tough match-up on the road as they travel to play the Ole Miss Rebels, who are 1-2 and looking to salvage their season in the early goings. The two teams face off in Oxford at 12 noon EST on ESPN.
