North Dakota State receives 74 votes in AP poll

On Saturday, the North Dakota State Bison pulled off a big upset when they defeated the then No. 13 Iowa Hawkeyes, earning their sixth straight win over an FBS opponent.

That win nearly helped the five-time defending national champions become the first FCS team to get ranked in the AP Top 25 poll.

The Bison received 74 votes in yesterday’s poll and were tied with UCLA and behind only TCU as the teams left out. They received more votes than teams like Boise State, Notre Dame and the team they beat, Iowa.

This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to many fans as ten different FCS teams have received votes for the poll in the past with the most recent being now-FBS team Appalachian State in 2007, after they had won three straight national titles and upset No. 5 Michigan at The Big House.

The Bison are looking to win their sixth straight title and tie Georgia Southern for the most all-time this year. If they do that, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Bison actually make it in.
