Don’t expect to see JT Barrett and the Ohio State Buckeyes participating in one of college football’s growing trends.
In recent weeks, we have seen players across the country developing the bad habit of dropping the football before they cross the goal line for a touchdown, most notably Joe Mixon of Oklahoma and Cal’s Vic Enwere.
But Barrett says the Buckeyes have rules in place to prevent such a situation.
“When you score, you hand the ball to an official and you go hug a big guy,” Barrett said, according to ESPN’s Austin Ward.
“That’s the rule. If anybody got away from that and dropped the ball before they crossed the end zone and the other team recovered it, I could only imagine what that day would be like for that man – or the rest of the year – with coach (Urban) Meyer. I just couldn’t tell you how awful that might be.”
Phew. You can breathe easy now, Buckeyes fans.
Hopefully one of those embarrassing moments won’t impact Urban Meyer’s squad anytime soon as they look to push for another College Football Playoff appearance.
Ohio State is off this week, before returning to action against Rutgers on Oct. 1.
