Earlier this year, Michigan State punter Mike Sadler passed away after a tragic car accident which also killed Nebraska punter Sam Foltz. The Spartans have partnered with Sadler’s family to create a scholarship to be awarded to a football player at the school every year.
The scholarship is called the Mike Sadler Legacy Football Scholarship and it has reportedly already raised $124,000. The team made the announcement came ahead of his induction into the Michigan State Athletics Hall of Fame.

“Mike Sadler was a giver, not a taker,” Michigan State head football coach Mark Dantonio said. “Mike was about life. He would want to be remembered as a person who embraced life. His wit, character, passion and competitiveness will live on through the establishment of this legacy scholarship fund. Mike Sadler will forever be associated with the Spartan football program.”
More than 300 people donated to the scholarship and it is certainly a great way to honor Sadler, who is one of the better punters to take the field for the Spartans. It has been an emotional start to the season for the Spartans and this is a great way to honor the late punter.
