Kurt Benkert sets Virginia passing yards record

Earlier this week, Virginia head coach Bronco Mendenhall claimed that the Cavaliers are “gaining momentum” despite their 0-3 start. That may be true after they beat up on the previously undefeated Central Michigan Chippewas today to earn their first win of the year.

In the game, transfer quarterback Kurt Benkert was the catalyst for the Cavaliers’ success as he set the school record for most passing yards in a game. He went for 427 yards and five touchdowns in the big 49-35 victory over the Chippewas.

This breaks Marc Verica’s record of 417 set against the Duke Blue Devils in 2010. The Cavaliers look to take this record and build on going into the rest of the season.

Virginia ironically faces off against the Duke Blue Devils next Saturday, Oct. 1 at 12:30 p.m. EST. The game will air on ACC Network Extra.
