One Oakland area high school football team is joining the movement started by San Franscisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
On Friday night, players made a powerful demonstration during the national anthem as Kaepernick was actually in attendance.
Former NFL player Kirk Morrison shared a photo of players from Castlemont High School lying on the ground and putting their hands in the air as the “Star-Spangled Banner” played. Kaepernick can be seen kneeling in the background.

“I had to come support you all, because the same way you all took a stand and stood with me, I had to come out here and stand with you all,” Kaepernick told the players, via ABC.com. “So I appreciate what you all did. I love you all. You all are my brothers, I’m here with you.”
It comes on a week where two African-American men were shot and killed by police officers in Tulsa and Charlotte. The incidents have sparked more national protests and debate over racial inequality and systemic racism in the country, which was the root of Kaepernick’s original protest during the NFL preseason.
It’s great to see the important dialogue continuing to run its course throughout the headlines.
