Just one week after a breakout game, Arizona Wildcats running back JJ Taylor has suffered a broken ankle. Taylor suffered the ankle in Saturday’s Week 4 loss to the No. 9 Washington Huskies in Tucson.
The news was announced by head coach Rich Rodriguez following the game.
“Extremely frustrating,” Rodriguez said, via Tucscon.com. “I mean, J.J. Taylor breaks his ankle. This guy’s going to be lights out, is lights out, and will be whenever he comes back.”
Last week, Taylor had his coming out party with 168 rushing yards and a touchdown against Hawaii. This week, Taylor had 97 yards and a touchdown before being forced out of the game.
Without Taylor, the Wildcats turn to Zach Green, the last healthy scholarship running back on the roster, and converted wide receiver Tyrell Johnson to handle duties in the backfield.
Arizona will now look to regroup next weekend when the Wildcats make a difficult road trip to Pasadena for a meeting with the UCLA Bruins at the Rose Bowl.
