Sunday morning, Miami Marlins star pitcher Jose Fernandez was tragically killed in a boating accident at age 24. The news rocked the sports world and many have begun sharing their emotional tributes
ESPN baseball analyst Eduardo Perez was one who discussed Fernandez and his tragic passing on-air after the news broke.
It was a powerful scene as Perez remembered the former Rookie of the Year.
Perez also had a close relationship with Fernandez as he was the Marlins’ hitting coach for two seasons while Fernandez was with the team. This has certainly been a tough day for everyone that has anything to do with the sport of baseball and the Marlins.
Jose Fernandez had a huge impact on the Latino community after he attempted multiple times to defect from Cuba, which landed him in prison for a year at a young age. He ended up making his way to the United States and quickly became one of the best pitchers in baseball.
Rest in peace, Jose Fernandez.
