Mylan Hicks was gunned down in front of the Marquee Beer Market, a nightclub, on Sunday morning around 2:30 AM. Thus far, it has been described only as “an act of violence”. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he would later succumb to his injuries.
The former three-star recruit out of Detroit Renaissance High last played for the Spartans in 2014. He had been playing for the Canadian League Calgary Stampeders. Teammate Jamar Wall, understandably distraught over the loss of his dear friend, has decided to wear number 31 as an homage to Hicks.

Recently, Hicks’ alma mater released a tribute video for him. In a weekend full of loss, with the Miami Marlins losing Jose Fernandez and Arnold Palmer passing at the age of 87, it’s difficult not to feel a collective sorrow. Hicks was only 23 years old and pursuing his dream of playing professional football.
Nelson Lugela, 19, has been arrested and charged with second degree murder in connection with the crime. He will make his first court appearance on September 30th.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family in this very difficult time.
