The College Football Playoff picture is still hazy, but the major players are starting to come in to focus. A lot will be decided this week, as a number of key match ups in the top 25 and in conference play will further sort things. With most teams past their lollipop games to start the season, intrigue and importance mount week after week.
Last week resolved some lingering suspicions, such as the status of Les Miles and his LSU Tigers, and raised others, like a top 10 ranking for a Houston team with only one quality win against a woefully overrated Oklahoma Sooners team. The San Diego State Aztecs are ranked for the first time since 1995, and the highest they’ve been since 1977, after a 3-0 start.
And all that with the surprise Baylor Bears, the remaining hope in the Big XII, who weathered a mass exodus this offseason that will likely hurt their depth in the future, but is yet to slow them down thus far.
All this to say this: College Football season is in full swing and it’s pretty darn fun, ain’t it?
Here are five marquee match ups to keep a look out for this week.
