Saquon is the kind of name that makes teachers sweat when they see it on the attendance sheet, but Penn State running back Saquon Barkley would have been named something entirely different if his father had has his way.
In an interview on the Big Ten Network, Barkley gives a little backstory behind his unusual name, and what he was almost named is amazing.
Saquon Barkley is a solid name.
So is Tupac Shakur Barkley.

His family sounds like a lot of fun. Tupac Shakur Barkley is not a guy you want to try and arm tackle.
Tupac is playing well this year. Excuse me. Saquon is playing well this year. He was named Big Ten player of the week after rushing for 202 yards and a touchdown against Maryland last week.
The sophomore is rushing for an average of 5 yards per carry this season and has already surpassed his total of touchdowns last year; seven.
Saquon Barkley, Tupac Shakur Barkley, or any of the other names he rattled off without a hitch, whatever you call him: he’s toting the ball really well for Penn State right now. Look for them to keep feeding him through conference play.
