Texas governor Greg Abbott was very interested in the potential Big 12 expansion, so when the conference decided against voting to adds teams like the Houston Cougars on Monday, many were waiting for his response.
Expectedly, Abbott seemed unhappy with the decision.
After all, the Big 12 paraded potential brides around for months without every asking for anyone’s hand in marriage. It was a colossal waste of everyone’s time and Abbott believes the conference owes a lot of people some apologies.
The fact that the Big 12 didn’t even vote on potential new members after allowing those teams to waste time and resources really rubbed folks the wrong way.
The Big 12 owes a lot of people an apology. It punted on expansion & shanked its future. @UHouston deserved better. https://t.co/DDQCmblAGS

The Big 12 also stated that expansion was off the table (for now), so it looks like those who were left out will have to wonder what could have been for the foreseeable future.
What a shame, because Houston deserves to be in a Power Five Conference.
