Texas DE Brecky Hager issues apology for saying he wants to injure Patrick Mahomes

Well…this doesn’t really come as a surprise. Texas defensive end Breckyn Hager is backpedaling on his comments earlier that his intention was to hurt Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Hager says he used a poor choice of words at the press conference and that his intention is never to physically injure someone.

Citing his “respect for Patrick Mahomes and every other quarterback,” Hager says that simply “isn’t what he’s about.” He closes the statement by saying that his education, on and off the field, is ongoing.

Texas coach Charlie Strong followed up Hager’s statement by saying “please don’t fire me.” Just kidding. Strong reiterated the fact that the Longhorns never go into a game looking to hurt anyone and their main focus is to put pressure on the quarterback and disrupt the opposing offense.

The Longhorns will play the Red Raiders on Saturday and this is sure to be a headline heading into the game. If Hager delivers a bone shaking hit on Mahomes, look for the controversy machine to get cranking at full speed.
