There was some terrible news for the Ole Miss football program on Sunday night.
The Rebels announced that star quarterback Chad Kelly is set to miss the remainder of the year due to injury. Kelly suffered a torn ACL and torn lateral meniscus in Saturday’s win over Georgia Southern.
“I didn’t see it, because it wasn’t a run play or anything he just, after he stepped and threw it somebody rolled into him,” Freeze said about Kelly’s injury after the game. “He said it’s on the outside part of his knee, which is typically not the worst of cases, but we won’t know until the MRI.”
It is a crushing blow for the Rebels, who are already in the midst of a disappointing season.
The senior quarterback, who is one of the top quarterback talents in the 2017 NFL Draft, ends his season with 2,758 yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He added 332 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.
Ole Miss will move forward with Jason Pellerin under center.
The Rebels return to action on Nov. 12 against Texas A&M in College Station. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.
