Maryland suspends 3 players, including RB Lorenzo Harrison

Maryland has suspended three players, including star running back Lorenzo Harrison for violating teams student-athlete code of conduct policy. The other players suspended were linebacker Antoine Brooks and wide receiver DJ Turner.

The sanctions, which the university announced ahead of its matchup against Ohio State, will leave the Terrapins shorthanded, particularly in the backfield.

This season, Harrison has rushed for five touchdowns and 658 yards. He was a mere 57 yards away from setting a new Maryland rushing record for most yards by a freshman running back.

Maryland coach DJ Durkin is in his first year and is setting the tone early in his tenure. While the exact nature of the violations is not yet known, suspending the workhorse on your offense is not an easy thing to do.

The suspensions are indefinite and effective immediately.

The other two suspensions, while they hurt the depth of the team, don’t carry the same impact as the suspension of Lorenzo Harrison. Maryland is 5-4 this season and is fighting for a chance to play in a bowl game this year.

They trail Ohio State 14-0 in the first quarter.
