Remember when Rutgers got beat 77-0 and it was probably a safe bet to guess that was the low point in their season? Well, this might not top it, but it’s close.
The Scarlet Knights were shut out again this week by the Michigan State Spartans, 49-0.
As you can tell by the final score, it was a brutal outing for the Scarlet Knights, but nothing sums up their afternoon like this one single play.
On a quick screen pass, Rutgers quarterback Gio Rescigno tripped over the feet of his running back and threw one of the ugliest passes you will ever see.
This play is a microcosm of what the team has been all season. Has Rutgers ever been a powerhouse school? No. But after their third shut out loss in which they lose by at least seven touchdowns, things don’t appear to be getting better.
Rutgers has shown flashes of improvement throughout the season, losing by only a touchdown to Iowa and only two points to Minnesota earlier this year. But near wins are different from actual wins and the teams record stands at 2-8 following today’s final.
