Tom Herman was a forgotten man after the Houston Cougars suffered two losses earlier this season, but now he is once again one of the most coveted head coaching candidates in college football.
Herman led Houston to a dominant 36-10 win over playoff contender Louisville on Thursday night, extending his winning streak as an underdog to eleven games.
The win was so impressive that Texas football boosters are reportedly once again pushing for the Longhorns to hire Herman as their next head coach.
Texas’ administration is receiving “extreme pressure” from prominent boosters to dismiss Charlie Strong and hire Houston coach Tom Herman, sources told ESPN.
Following the Cougars’ second top five win of the season, a bidding war for Herman is expected to start “at a minimum of $5.5 million,” the report states.
If Strong is fired, he would receive a $10 million buyout.
Herman will be a top candidate for many of the biggest jobs in the nation — like Texas and LSU — so it will be interesting to see how the net few weeks play out. One thing we do know is that Tom Herman has gone from forgotten man to highly-coveted asset.
