A Maryville College football player is being charged with murder after having fatally shot his ex-girlfriend because she wanted to break up with him.
William Riley Gaul, 18, shot and killed his 16-year-old girlfriend, Emma Jane Walker, while she was in her bedroom.
Gaul, a wide receiverfor Division II Maryville College in Tennessee, was arrested by the Knox County Sheriff’s Department and is being held on $750,000 bail.
The murder comes on the heels of what was a messy and difficult breakup. While Emma Jane Walker was ready to move on, Gaul refused to accept her wishes.
In what appears to be a case of infatuated delusion on Gaul’s part, he tweeted the following:

Walker was only 16 years old and had aspirations of becoming a neonatal nurse. She was on the cheerleading team at her high school, where she and Gaul originally met.
Given the time the second message appears to have been typed into his phone, when it was posted, and when the murder supposedly took place, all signs point to premeditation.
Gaul is over the legal age and will be tried as an adult. There no court date set as of yet.
