Tom Herman is the hottest candidate on the coaching market entering the offseason, and he has been named as a top target from Power 5 programs like the LSU Tigers and Texas Longhorns.
However, while those reports circulate, Houston is reportedly ready to up the ante to keep their head coach.
According to Joseph Duarte of the Houston Chronicle, Herman and Houston athletic director Hunter Yurachek have reportedly discussed the possibility of a “seven-figure increase” to keep the former Ohio State offensive coordinator with the Cougars.
Herman currently earns $3 million per year.
Reports surfaced on Thanksgiving that LSU is “zeroing in on Herman” as its next head coach, but both LSU and Houston have denied those reports.
Houston finishes off its 2016 regular season Friday afternoon against Memphis.
Kickoff is set for noon ET on ABC. Following the team’s regular-season finale, we could finally begin to receive some clarity on what is next for Herman and the head coaching carousel entering the offseason.
