Houston has lined up interviews with two head coaching candidates, according to reports on Tuesday, and it will be very familiar names for the Cougars fan base.
While a number of former coach Tom Herman’s assistants will be joining him with the Texas Longhorns, two of his most prominent assistants are set to interview for the head coaching vacancy.
Per reports, defensive coordinator Todd Orlando, who will serve as interim coach for the team’s bowl game, and offensive coordinator Major Applewhite are set to interview for the job.
Houston has plenty of talent on the current roster, so finding some familiarity during the coaching transition could help the team remain as one of the AAC’s elite.
The Cougars are currently waiting to learn where they will travel for the postseason.
If Orlando leads the team to victory, it seems fair to believe he would have the inside track to earning the head coaching gig.
