Report: Stanford, Rice to open 2017 football season in Australia

College football will once again be heading to the Land Down Under.

According to a report from Jon Wilner of The Mercury News, the Stanford and Rice football programs will be opening the 2017 season in Australia pending the NCAA’s approval.

If the game gets the green light, it would be moved from a Sept. 2 date at Rice Stadium to late August at Olympic Stadium in Sydney, Australia. Rice would remain the designated home team even if the game is moved from Houston, with both teams receiving bye weeks on Labor Day Weekend.

This season, Cal and Hawaii opened the season in Australia, with the Golden Bears delivering a 20-point beatdown.
