Christian McCaffrey to skip bowl game to focus on draft prep

Stanford will be without its best player in the finale game of the season.

On Monday morning, star running back Christian McCaffrey took to Twitter to release a brief statement announcing he will not be playing in the team’s Sun Bowl matchup with North Carolina.

Rather than risk injury in a meaningless game, McCaffrey has decided to get an early start on his preparations for the 2017 NFL Draft.

This officially ends McCaffrey’s impressive career at Stanford.

McCaffrey finishes his Stanford career with 3,922 rushing yards, 1,206 receiving yards, 1,859 return yards and 33 total touchdowns.

Kickoff between the Cardinal and Tar Heels is set for Friday, Dec. 30 at 2 p.m. ET on CBS.
