Duke guard Grayson Allen found himself in the middle of another controversy on Tuesday night, after colliding with Florida State assistant Dennis Gates in the bench area after making an effort to keep the ball inbounds.
A video that began to circulate on social media was suggesting Allen intentionally shoved Gates to the ground, but plenty of basketball minds have since come to Allen’s defense.
Gates released a statement on Wednesday morning taking blame for the contact and applauding Allen’s effort and hustle on the play.
Now, ESPN college basketball analyst Dick Vitale has also come to Allen’s defense.
Vitale, like Gates, called the criticism Allen is receiving for the latest incident “absurd,” while stating the Florida State assistant was also to blame.

Allen doesn’t get the benefit of a doubt because of his previous tripping incidents and he is certainly playing under a microscope moving forward, but this was nothing more than a basketball play.
