Report: UConn In Talks To Rejoin The Big East

When the Big East decided to focus on basketball and drop football, it lost valuable members like Pittsburgh, Syracuse, UConn and Rutgers. Now, one of those teams could be making their way back.
According to Jon Rothstein of FanRag Sports, the Huskies are in talks to potentially rejoin the conference.
UConn is currently a member of the American Athletic Conference (AAC).
The holdup for any possible move goes back to the Big East’s decision to focus on basketball. Without the conference sponsoring football, the Huskies football team would be left looking for a conference.
It’s highly unlikely any Power 5 conference would be interested in a football only deal, while other options would include Conference USA, the MAC and Sun Belt.
Rothstein notes a home for the football program is the only thing holding UConn back from returning to the Big East.
“That’s the only thing that’s standing in the way of a marriage,” a source told Rothstein.
Let’s hope the two sides can come to an agreement and the football program finds a home, because we’re all about making the Big East great again.
