Baylor very suddenly has a huge hole it will need to fill.
Dom Desouza, the teams experienced and talented offensive lineman has abruptly decided to stop playing football. Desouza already has his degree, and can decide to become a graduate transfer student elsewhere without needing to sit out, if he decides he wants to play again.
Baylor’s offensive line was going to be one of its strengths going into the 2017 season, returning four starters. Now with Desouza out of the picture, there is a little more acclimating that will need to be done.
The reason behind his abrupt departure is not yet publicly known.
Baylor is currently in the midst of one of the ugliest sexual assault scandals in sports history, which has undoubtedly taken its toll on everyone involved, including the players. Of course, Desouza’s decision could be over concerns for his health. Player retirements have over health concerns are becoming increasingly common.
Or maybe he just didn’t want to play football anymore.
Given that he has never taken a snap of professional football, is it fair to call this a retirement?
