Tennessee star Derek Barnett is expected to be one of the top defensive players selected in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Barnett is widely regarded as a first-round pick, but he struggled to impress at the NFL Scouting Combine this weekend with a lackluster performance during on-field drills.
To Barnett’s credit, however, there is a reason for his struggles.
According to the Tennessee football Twitter account, Barnett was fighting an illness but still suited up and tried to push through on the field.
Barnett ran the 40-yard dash in 4.88 seconds, while recording a vertical jump of 31 inches and a 9-foot-8 broad jump.

The good news for Barnett is that he will have another opportunity to stand out from his peers when he works out at the Tennessee Pro Day. Hopefully he will be healthy this time around so he can put his best foot forward.
