Florida Football Coach Jim McElwain Watches Gators Elite 8 Game

|

The Florida basketball team advanced to the Elite Eight on Chris Chiozza’s thrilling buzzer beater that put the Gators over Wisconsin for the victory.

With all of the excitement swirling around the campus in Gainesville, Florida football coach Jim McElwain couldn’t help but hop on a flight and be in New York to watch his team play South Carolina with a Final Four appearance on the line at Madison Square Garden.

“I’ve got to tell you, this was a childhood dream of mine to ever be in the Garden and now to be able to watch your team in the Garden, that’s even better,” he said.

McElwain is so invested in the Gators deep tournament run that he even interrupted his own press-conference to talk about basketball instead of football. He has been quick to praise Florida basketball coach Mike White and the way his team has played selfless, team basketball throughout the tournament.

One reporter playfully asked him what he thought of Guard KeVaughn Allen’s slump. McElwain had nothing but praise and encouragement for Allen, who then scored a scored a career high 35 points on Friday night.

McElwain’s prediction came without much of a surprise: “Well, Gators. We’ll see you in Phoenix”.
