On Monday, the Georgetown basketball program announced former Hoyas star and NBA legend Patrick Ewing as its next head coach. Ewing will now have the opportunity to lead the team that he helped put on the map during his outstanding four-year career.
“My four years at Georgetown were the best of my life,” Ewing said in a statement announcing his hiring.
“Georgetown is my home and it is a great honor for me to return to my alma mater and serve as the next head coach. I have been preparing to be a head coach for many years and can’t wait to return to the Hilltop.”
For those too young to remember Ewing as a standout on the basketball court in college, this excerpt from 30 for 30’s “Requiem for the Big East” will provide a fresh reminder.
Ewing came to the Hoyas as the No. 1 recruit in the nation, before ultimately moving on as the No. 1 selection in the NBA Draft.
During his career at Georgetown, Ewing was a three-time first-team All-American, two-time Big East Player of the Year, College National Player of the Year, NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player and an NCAA champion.
