Patrick Ewing Named New Georgetown Basketball Coach

Former Georgetown basketball and NBA star Patrick Ewing is returning to campus.

On Monday, after an interview over the weekend, it was reported that the 54-year-old legend is set to be hired as the new Hoyas basketball coach, replacing the recently fired John Thompson III.

This will be Ewing’s first job as a head coach.

While Ewing has never been a head coach, he has served as an assistant since ending his playing career in 2002. Ewing has been an assistant for the Washington Wizards, Houston Rockets, Orlando Magic and, most recently, associate head coach of the Charlotte Bobcats.

During his career at Georgetown, Ewing was a three-time first-team All-American, two-time Big East Player of the Year, College National Player of the Year, NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player and an NCAA champion.
