A minor controversy was stirred ahead of UFC 210 when fighter Pearl Gonzalez wasn’t immediately cleared to fight when it was discovered that she had breast implants. Gonzalez was eventually cleared for the fight, but the New York State Athletic Commission’s momentary balk upset several around the UFC.
Among them was fighter Michelle Waterson, who told TMZ Sports she didn’t think that implants aren’t worth considering when clearing a fighter to fight.
Waterson is set to face off against Rose Namajunas at UFC at FOX 24 Saturday night. She doesn’t appear to be concerned with the issue, so long as the fighter makes weight.
However, the Athletic Commission took pause of health concerns for the fighter as a result of the implants. Their investigation into the issue proved their was no additional risk of injury for Gonzalez, and the fighter was allowed to make her debut.
Despite her logistically success, though, she wasn’t as successful in her efforts in the Octagon. Her opponent, Cynthia Calvillo shined throughout and handled Gonzalez with relative ease and poise.
