According to Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Communications at the Massachusetts Department of Correction Christopher M. Fallon, Hernandez hanged himself with a bed sheet in his prison cell and attempted to jam the door so no one could enter.
Hernandez was discovered around 3:05 a.m. at the Souza Baranowski Correctional Center.
“Aaron Hernandez was discovered hanged in his cell by corrections officers at the Souza Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley Massachusetts at approximately 3:05 a.m., lifesaving techniques were attempted on Mr. Hernandez and he was transported to UMASS Leominster where he was pronounced dead at 4:07 a.m. by a physician at the hospital,” Fallon said in a statement.

“Mr. Hernandez was in a single cell in a general population housing. Mr. Hernandez hanged himself utilizing a bed sheet that he attached to his cell window. Mr. Hernandez also attempted to block his door from the inside by jamming the door with various items.”
This comes just days after Hernandez was found not guilty in the double-murder of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado back in 2012.
However, Hernandez was still serving a life-sentence for the murder of Odin Lloyd in 2013.
During his brief career as a standout tight end for the New England Patriots, Hernandez recorded 175 catches for 1,956 yards and 18 touchdowns.
