Some of the best moments each offseason come when programs across the country award scholarships to the hardest working walk-ons on the team. This week, ECU football coach Scottie Montgomery decided to get into the action.
In the spirit of Mother’s Day, Montgomery visited the mother of walk-on defensive end Kiante Anderson, Tia Chapman, to announce her son had received the scholarship for his commitment to the team.
Montgomery visited Chapman at an elementary school where she works.
“I just decided to show up,” Montgomery said in a video released by the program on YouTube. “(Anderson) loves her, he speaks so highly of her, talks about her sacrifices and he’s earned it on and off the field.”
Anderson’s mother was very grateful of the news.
“I was just praying about that last night,” Chapman said. “We need that. He needs that.”
