One of the top college football stars is spending his time leading up to the 2017 season by learning lessons on and off the field from a notorious NFL Draft bust and former Heisman Trophy winner.
Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen, one of the top signal-callers in the nation and a projected high pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, is working with quarterback guru George Whitfield and that has led to interaction with the one and only Johnny Manziel.
You may think you wouldn’t want your star quarterback hanging out with Manziel, but Allen said Manziel has been a big help in multiple aspects.
“Johnny has been very informative for me,” Allen told Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports. “Not just on the field but off the field, staying out of the spotlight, doing the right things.”
While Manziel’s own NFL career flamed out after being a first-round pick, he is reportedly working hard to make a comeback.
Whether he ever receives another chance remains to be seen, but at the very least it appears he is using his past experiences to help young quarterbacks on the rise avoid making the same mistakes as he once did.
If Allen can learn from those lessons and keep his head on straight amid all the hype entering this year, he should very well be in the discussion for the No. 1 overall pick when next spring rolls around.
