One UCLA basketball player has decided to speak out about LaVar Ball, and he seems to believe the outspoken father is doing more harm than good for the reputation of his son, top NBA prospect Lonzo Ball.
Lonzo’s former teammate, Bryce Alford, discussed LaVar and tried to not take any personal digs but did indicate LaVar’s brash nature has caused people to ignore the kind of guy Lonzo really is.
“It’s just an unfair thing for Lonzo just because I think he gets a rep he doesn’t deserve. And I don’t want to say anything poorly against LaVar, I think he’s done a good job of getting him ready to be where he’s at and he’s helped him become a great basketball player,” Alford said.
“So, I don’t want to say anything that way, but he does get a persona that’s just totally not him. He’s an absolutely great kid, great teammate and truly cares about what his teammates are doing more so than himself. So if anything, I hope NBA people can see that.”
By all accounts, Lonzo Ball really is a good kid.
Even during an appearance on ESPN’s First Take, viewers noted how cool, calm and collected Lonzo was next to his rowdy father. Unfortunately, with LaVar feeling the need to constantly enter the spotlight, Lonzo is going have to deal with the backlash even if he’s not directly responsible.
