Things might be awkward on the first day of practice. After previously announcing that he’d be transferring out of the UGA football program for the 2017 football season, Brice Ramsey has decided to finish out his collegiate career with the Bulldogs.
247Sports was first to report that the quarterbacks offseason recruitment led him back to the school where it all started.
Yolanda Ramsey said that her son couldn’t get past the fact that his “heart was with UGA.”
A touching sentiment, but likely not the actual reason that Ramsey chose to return to the Bulldogs.
After seeing the writing on the wall, Ramsey knew he’d likely not get a lot of playing time at quarterback for his senior season. Incumbent starting quarterback Jacob Eason now stands entrenched at the top of the depth chart. After weighing his options, it appears likely that no other Power Five school was willing to guarantee Ramsey he would be the day one starter.
He now enters the season as a solid, and capable backup for the Georgia Bulldogs. Now with three scholarship quarterbacks on the roster, they should be set at the most important position on the field.
