Al Pacino To Star As Joe Paterno In New HBO Film

The long-rumored film has legs under it again. After years of speculation, the idea of a film about the life of Joe Paterno appears to be in the works.
The original intention was to make a film based off of the biography penned by Joe Posnanski. That eventually fell through.
Variety first reported that the possibility of a Paterno film was as likely than ever on Monday. This time, the cast will feature legendary actor Al Pacino in what could prove to be a career renaissance for him.
You’ll recall he made an appearance on Adam Sandler’s Jack and Jill.

Based on the log line film, it appears that the bulk of the action will take place after the Paterno’s storied football coaching career, and deal with the aftermath immediately following the Jerry Sandusky scandal.
A complex story with a number of moving parts and intricacies, the story will be ripe with drama and potential.
Barry Levinson is set to direct the film, with Jason Sosnoff and Tom Fontana also executive producing. The script will be penned by industry veterans Debora Cahn, John C. Richards, and David McKenna. With an actor like Pacino set to play the Paterno, expect all the pathos, humanity, and depth you could ever wish for in a story of this magnitude.
