Ohio State is looking for a new head basketball coach. There have been a number of names tied to the position, with the latest information suggesting an internal hire.
Wherever they decide to go to fill the vacancy, it appears like we can cross one off of the list.
If Ohio State wants Arizona head coach Sean Miller to coach at their university, they’ll have to commit a murder. That’s how strongly Wildcats athletic director feels about keeping the coach responsible for Arizona’s ascendancy to one of the premiere basketball destinations in the country.
Miller has been everything the Wildcats could have hoped for when he signed on eight season ago. He has posted a .769 winning percentage during that time, and has hauls in a top five recruiting class with regularity. His tenure includes six tournament appearance and two national titles.
He’d be a huge boon for Ohio State, but it doesn’t appear that it’ll come easy. In a wide-ranging interview, Miller didn’t mince words when asked about the possibility of Miller leaving the school for OSU.
“The Ohio State University is great university, but they are not going to get Coach Miller,” he said. “They will have to come over me to get him, as the saying goes, over my dead body.”
Strong words. Miller was always a stretch to leave Arizona for OSU anyway. Arizona again expected to be a force, and seeded highly in the tournament. Speculation is that Arizona will be the ranked at the top of the preseason polls.
