The UNC basketball program received some good news this week.
On Thursday, it was reported that Cam Johnson has been granted his full release from Pittsburgh and has been cleared to play in the 2017-18 college basketball season.
Pitt initially tried to restrict Johnson’s transfer, attempting to force him to sit out a year in order to transfer to another ACC school.
“Pittsburgh just called me,” Johnson said, via Scout.com. “The associate AD just called me and told me.
“We are very excited this is over.”
Johnson, who averaged 11.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game last season, has two years of eligibility remaining.
The 6-foot-8 forward should be an immediate contributor for Roy Williams’ Tar Heels, who are fresh off of a national championship win and currently looking to replace a number of standout players from last year’s squad.
