John Calipari Reportedly Has Interest In Knicks Job

Year after year we hear the same discussion regarding Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari — will he make the jump to the NBA? Every time, Calipari denies interest and returns to his job with the Wildcats.
But could that be set to change?
According to a report from ESPN’s Ian Begley, Calipari has reached out about the Knicks job.
Along with helping to run the team’s basketball operations and filling the void left by recently fired Phil Jackson, Calipari would also reportedly have interest in leading the team as head coach.
Per Begley, the Knicks do not currently have interest in Calipari.

Kentucky head coach John Calipari reached out to knicks through intermediaries to express interest in the Knicks presidency, per ESPN league sources. The Knicks do not have interest in Calipari at the moment, per league sources. Presumably, Calipari would want to coach as well if he took over as president. The Knicks parted ways with president Phil Jackson earlier this week. Current GM Steve Mills is handling the club’s day-to-day operations and is expected to lead them through free agency.

Will the 58-year-old return to the NBA game after brief stints with the Nets and 76ers back in the late 1900’s? Only time will tell, but he hasn’t left the past few years when rumors circulated and that says a lot about his loyalty to Kentucky.
