Last weekend, Marshall football player Damien Dozier was hospitalized after being shot.
There were few details regarding the incident that led to Dozier being shot, but WV MetroNews has received a police report that provides further information on what went down that night.
According to police, Dozier was found early in the morning on June 25 and was not cooperative with police. Police also found a stolen gun and bag of what they believed to be heroin near the scene.
Dozier claims he was approached by three men who open fired.
“We are aware of the shooting of one of our student-athletes, who is on the way to making a full recovery. The individual’s family has been notified, but we are unable to provide further details due to federal privacy laws,” the university said in a statement.
Dozier, who was “extremely” intoxicated, was treated for a gunshot wound at the local hospital before being released, though police say he was also uncooperative at the hospital.
Last season, the defensive lineman played in 11 games for the Thundering Herd.
