The UNLV campus could be busier than usual on weekends in the future thanks to the NFL’s Raiders.
In anticipation of the team’s relocation to Las Vegas, the Raiders have reportedly proposed using parking space on the UNLV campus for fans to use during home games, despite UNLV’s campus being three miles from the new stadium.
Adam Candee of the Las Vegas Sun shared the news.
The issue stems from the current Raiders stadium site having only 2,400 parking spaces — which is significantly less than what is required for a venue that can seat more than 65,000 people.
As a result, the Raiders have proposed the idea of using parking spaces on the UNLV campus including the Thomas & Mack Center. Fans would then have to take a shuttle to the stadium. Both the UNLV football team and the Raiders will be sharing the new stadium.
In exchange for using the parking spots on campus, the Raiders are also allowing UNLV to pick what surface they wish to play on, grass or turf, and it will be provided free of cost by the Raiders.
There’s still a lot to work out as the Raiders prepare for their new move, but it already looks like the team’s game will be a special experience.
