2017 Maxwell Award Watch List Released: SEC Leads With 21 Players

On Monday, the 2017 Maxwell Award watch list was released as we anticipate the start of the upcoming college football season.
This year’s preseason watch list includes a whopping 85 players vying for the award — which is handed out annually to the best all-around player in the nation.
As you would probably expect, the SEC leads the way with 21 players named to the Maxwell Award watch list. Twelve Big 12 players were named, along with 11 players each from the ACC, Big Ten and Pac-12.
Outside of the Power Five conferences, the AAC and Conference USA saw four players receiving recognition, there are three Independent teams along with a trio of programs in the MWC and Sun Belt, and finally the MAC with two players.
Last year, Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson of Louisville claimed the Maxwell Award. This year’s winner will be announced at the Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 7.
